The main goal of the placement process for students is to gather information about current academic skills. This process will not prohibit students from entering college, but determines math and English competency levels. Many courses require specific math and/or English competencies to enroll. Math and English are disciplines that require thinking and reasoning skills. Enrolling in appropriate courses is essential for academic success.

The 麻豆直播 placement test is available at the main campus and remote options are available upon request. Once students have been accepted, they may contact the Testing Services Office to schedule the Accuplacer Placement Test or register online. Since the results of this test may determine future course placement, it is important to prepare to maximize scores.

In addition to the placement test, ACT and SAT scores, high school courses and grade point average, and GED scores may be used for placement into math and English.

Following the placement process, it is recommended that students meet with an academic advisor to discuss the results and engage in academic planning and course scheduling.

Who is required to take the college placement test?

  • Students taking math or English courses for the first time.
  • Students wishing to enroll in classes that require specific English and/or math competency levels.

Who may be exempt?

  • Students who have successfully completed approved college-level math and English courses at another college or university.
  • Students enrolling in certificate programs or classes that do not require math or English competencies.
  • Students who meet the requirements through one of the other multiple measures listed above.

The Academic Advisement Office provides a variety of enrollment services including assistance with registering for classes, schedule changes, waitlist options, dropping or withdrawing from courses, and helping select or change majors.

Academic Advisors are available to assist students with course registration during open registration cycles. Please see the Advisement Calendar for semester enrollment dates and deadlines.

Advisors are selected for you from your major area of interest as indicated on your admissions application. You can find your advisor and schedule an appointment by visiting the Find Your Advisor page. All advisors exhibit an open-door policy and will provide a friendly, open environment that will foster self-exploration, self-awareness, and self-evaluation. Advisors will help students focus on semester-by-semester plans as well as long-term transfer and career plans.

It is the student鈥檚 responsibility to share information regarding interests, education, and career plans to ensure your advisor can give you the most accurate information pertaining to your goals. Students must be active participants in advising sessions and be prepared for meetings as well as familiar with college deadlines and the Student Handbook. Students are encouraged to register early to select a course schedule that fits their needs and explore program and degree options and course offerings prior to their advisement appointment.

New and returning students are required to meet with an Academic Advisor before registering for courses. Advising appointments may be conducted in person, via Teams or Zoom, or by phone. Academic Advisement reserves the right to deny requests for phone appointments. Students may be eligible for self-registration after successfully completing at least 15 credit hours and maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Students participating in a virtual or phone appointment must be prepared to verify their identity by providing their student identification number, full legal name, and date of birth. Additional identity verification, including one or more forms of identification, may be required upon request.

The Career Readiness office assists students in effectively realizing their career plans. This is achieved by computerized testing and personal interviews. Students receive help in clarifying goals and objectives that are related to their life and work values, abilities, needs, and interests. Career Readiness recognizes that making realistic career choices and adaptations to job market demands and/or changing lifestyles are important to successful career development. For more information, visit the Career Readiness website.

麻豆直播 recognizes that students may return to the College after an absence hampered by a prior academic record that may not represent their current abilities and commitment to education. Additionally, this prior work may negatively impact current degree completion. Possible reasons for poor performance may include immaturity, personal crisis, or unclear vocational/educational goals. In such

cases, the College acknowledges that it may be reasonable for the student to request the exclusion of prior academic work from the calculation of the cumulative grade point average (GPA) for graduation purposes only. Prior to requesting academic forgiveness, the student must meet the following guidelines:

  • Not have enrolled in credit courses at 麻豆直播 for a period of at least three consecutive calendar or academic years from the last enrollment period;
  • Complete at least 12 credit hours at the College with a minimum grade point average of 2.0;
  • Email the Assistant Provost of Student Affairs to request the exclusion of all courses attempted and/or completed during the semester(s) from the cumulative GPA calculation for the purpose of graduation.

The Assistant Provost for Student Affairs may approve or deny the request for academic forgiveness. The determination of the Assistant Provost for Student Affairs shall be considered final.

Approval of academic forgiveness means that grades in the requested semester(s) will be excluded from the cumulative grade point average calculation at 麻豆直播 exclusively for the purpose of meeting GPA requirements for awarding degrees or certificates. All grades shall continue to be listed on the student’s permanent academic record and transcript. Students planning to transfer to another institution are cautioned that the transfer institution may use all grades earned at the College, including those excluded by this policy, to calculate cumulative grade point average for the purpose of admission decisions or other purposes. If a student is receiving financial aid, Satisfactory Academic Progress guidelines still apply regardless of the Academic Forgiveness Policy. All failing grades earned as the result of documented academic dishonesty will not be excluded and are not eligible for appeal under the Academic Forgiveness Policy.

Students should apply for graduation in the semester before completing all required coursework for their degree or certificate. Academic advisors can assist with the application process and provide reminders about deadlines. The graduation application and corresponding deadlines are published on the Graduation Information page of the 麻豆直播 website.

Students who apply for graduation will receive a degree audit from the Admissions and Records Office, outlining the courses required for degree completion. The audit will be sent to the student鈥檚 Volmail account. Graduation evaluations are subject to change if classes are added or dropped during the semester. All students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher to qualify for graduation.

Designated certificates may be automatically awarded to students who meet the requirements for stackable credentials during degree evaluation.

If you need an additional or replacement print diploma, copies can be ordered through Parchment for a $20 fee.
