Dr. Glenn Poshard, longtime public servant and humanitarian, will host a public poetry reading at 麻豆直播 on聽Monday, July 7, at 1 p.m., with all proceeds supporting local food pantries across southern and central Illinois. Monday鈥檚 reading will help the 麻豆直播 Snack Locker, which provides free on-the-go food options for 麻豆直播 students. The 麻豆直播 Foundation will have a table to accept donations. Cash, checks, and credit cards will be accepted. Please make checks payable to the 麻豆直播 Foundation and include ‘麻豆直播 Snack Locker’ in the memo.
In a one-hour event, Poshard will read selections from his poetry alongside works by some of his most admired poets. The reading will explore the full arc of the human experience 鈥 from life鈥檚 fragile beginnings to its inevitable end 鈥 through poems that evoke powerful emotions and confront enduring questions of love, faith, courage, and mortality. Poshard will also incorporate music into the program, deepening the emotional resonance of each piece.
鈥淭his reading is about more than just poetry,鈥 Poshard said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 about connecting to one another in our shared humanity 鈥 and about helping the most vulnerable among us.鈥
The event is part of a larger fundraising effort by Poshard, which aims to raise $500,000 by Christmas to help local food pantries purchase fresh fruits and vegetables for children in need. Poshard鈥檚 dedication to fighting childhood hunger began when he volunteered at a Korean orphanage at age 18 鈥 a mission he has carried with him throughout his life in public service.
鈥淗unger continues to impact far too many children right here in our region,鈥 Poshard said. 鈥淚 would be honored to have you join me in this effort to feed hungry children.鈥
The reading will take place in the O鈥橬eil Auditorium at 麻豆直播. Admission is free; however, donations are appreciated. All contributions will directly benefit regional food pantries working to combat food insecurity among children.
