麻豆直播 Hosts National Voter Registration Day Event

Published on September 28, 2021

On Tuesday, September 28, the 麻豆直播 Political Science Club will host a League of Women Voters voter registration event in the lower E wing Lobby near the Coffee Shop on the campus of 麻豆直播 from 10 AM to 2 PM.

鈥淚 teach about United States political culture and political participation in my political science and sociology courses where we talk about two of the core ideals guiding us, equality and self-government,鈥 said professor of political science Dr. Jane Bryant.  鈥淲e made strides toward achieving these ideals in terms of voting rights through several key amendments to the U.S. Constitution and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.  Recently, however, we seem to be regressing in terms of these core ideals.  It鈥檚 imperative we do not lose sight of the importance of having a say in how we are governed.  The notion of our representative democracy depends upon it.鈥

According to Bryant, sixty percent of eligible voters are never asked to register to vote, and about 25 percent are not registered properly.

鈥淵ou cannot vote if you are not registered, and not voting is giving up your voice,鈥 added Bryant. 鈥淭hat is why a day like today is so important to give everyone the opportunity to register to vote.

Individuals interested in registering to vote can visit the Lower E Lobby on September 28, from 10 AM to 2 PM. Bring two forms of identification, including a photo ID and current mailing address. Information will also be available for those wishing to register online.
